DR FAROUK HASSEN

(MBCHB, FCP & B.SC HONOURS)

Dr Farouk Hassen is a senior lecturer and a cardiologist practising with his son. Dr Hassen received his MBChB from the University of Natal and his Fellowship through the College of Physicians of South Africa. He completed his BSc (Honours) from McMaster University in Canada and made the Dean's honorary list with Organic Chemistry, Genetics and Zoology and Physics classes. After completing internship training through King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban, Dr Farouk Hassen was appointed medical officer in the Department of Paediatrics and Surgery at Natalspruit Hospital.

Dr Farouk Hassen has spent years in the academic field after being appointed as a senior lecturer in the Department of Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Natal and a consultant cardiologist at King Edward VIII Hospital.

In addition, he received further training after taking a three-week Colour Doppler course with Dr Nanda through the University of Alabama in the United States. In 1991, he decided to branch out into private practice, where he practises as a specialist cardiologist.

Dr Farouk Hassen has presented several papers at scientific meetings on cardiology-based topics such as coronary artery disease in patients with advanced aortic stenosis, amyloidosis at a renal congress in Durban and routine echocardiography in patients with infective endocarditis, to name a few. His cardiology-related research, such as work on amyloidosis, cardiac beriberi, mitral balloon valvuloplasty and other leading topics, has been published in a number of academic journals.


 

DR NAEEM HASSEN

(MBBCh, MMed & Fellowship in Cardiology)

Dr Naeem Hassen has a long history of academic success after matriculating from Durban High School with distinction. In 2008, he received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) from the University of the Witwatersrand's medical school in Johannesburg. In 2012, he completed his registrar training in Internal Medicine through the University of KwaZulu-Natal at King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban. Furthermore, Dr Hassen attained his MMed in Internal Medicine from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and received a postgraduate qualification in Cardiology and his Cardiology Fellowship from Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital. He also has a Diploma in Geriatric Medicine which he received in 2017 from the College of Medicine of South Africa.

Dr Hassen completed two years of internship training through RK Khan Hospital, practising four months in internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and surgery, as well as two months in orthopaedics, casualty and anaesthetics. The last month was spent in HIV management and psychiatry.

Dr Hassen’s Master’s research involved clinical presentations and the management of pulmonary sarcoidosis, a rare disease affecting the lung and other organs in a hospital setting.
